Established in 2002 and currently operating as a Limited Company, Soft Quality Ltd., I, Philip Wain, am a a seasoned Quality professional with over 20 years experience in quality management and systems & software development in a variety of industries, including financial services, defence, research & development, technical publications and consultancies in both the public and private sectors.

I have a software engineering background in both large-scale and small projects, and at all life cycle stages. I have recent experience of delivering consultancy services to clients through permanent and contract staff, responsible for sales targets, budgets and HR at a reasonably senior level, so have a first hand understanding of business pressures and the need to make quality systems fit the business and not the other way around.

I have particular expertise in quality in software, IT operations, manufacturing engineering design, and service industries. I am an experienced commercial trainer on quality and auditing. With 12 years as a third party auditor, I have had wide experience of UK industry, and have also audited in the USA, Europe and Japan. I have strong interpersonal skills, relating to staff at all levels. I am qualified in ISO 9000:2000 and fully conversant with other related standards such as CMM, EFQM and IiP. Recently, I have some experience of OHSAS 18000 and ISO 14001 and has just become registered to the ITIL certification scheme, BS 15000 through the IT Service Management Forum (ITSMF).

Availability, Rates and Fees
My experience as a practicing Quality and IT professional is available for you to contract on a completely flexible basis, and location is not generally a barrier for all but the shortest assignments, which I restrict to the UK, Channel Islands and mainland Europe. Because of ongoing commitments I am not usually available for an exclusive contract period. Consultancy is more usually contracted to work around existing bookings and whilst a significant number of days may be bookable in a short period, there are usually existing long standing commitments that need to be accommodated within that.

Fees are negotiable and competitive. I offer discounts and flexible payment terms for small firms and ongoing service commitments. I also offer a sliding scale of rates, which means that the more days in a period you contract me for, the lower the hourly or daily rate I offer. Conversely, if you need only a short consultation I am available by the hour, plus at cost receipted travel and if necessary, subsistence.
